Top: Business: Arts_and_Entertainment: Tools_and_Equipment: Scenic

This category contains scene shops, scenic studios, scenery rental houses, and all companies offering scene construction services. Please submit to the appropriate subcategory when possible.

For companies which do both, but specialize more in props, see Business: Arts and Entertainment: Tools and Equipment: Props.

Scenery is the "background" for a scene in a play, movie, or themed environment. It is made up of backdrops, painted flats suspended from above, and large free-standing set pieces that the actors might climb upon or inside. (Props, a related subject, consist of smaller items that are hand-held, or furniture such as tables and chairs.)

A typical scenic studio might offer design services as well as construction and installation. They might serve only the theatre industry, or only television, or some combination of several industries. Some companies offer scenic elements, such as doors or realistic-looking rocks surfaces, instead of building entire sets.

Backdrops

This category contains sites pertaining to the business of designing, manufacturing, and renting scenic backdrops for theater, motion picture, television and photography.

For unpainted backdrops, please see the related category Soft Goods.

Backdrops are cloths which can be hung as a background for a scene in theatre, film, or photography. Scenic backdrops typically have sky, buildings, landscape or other scenery painted on it to give depth and atmosphere to a scene, and to work together with the set and props being used.

Parade Floats

This category contains businesses which design and construct parade floats, or provide plans or materials for do-it-yourself construction.

Parade floats are large scenic displays used in parades. They usually represent various organizations or businesses and are designed to be as eye catching and spectacular as possible. They are often built based upon automobiles or other driveable platforms, and have costumed performers riding along on top. Some floats are home made while others have been designed and built by professional float-makers.
