There are six Tourist Destination Regions in Alberta. Each region has a unique and colourful geography. These include four rural and two urban regions, namely.

Northern Alberta

The Rockies, or Mountain Region

The Heartland, or Central Alberta

Southern Alberta


Calgary Region

Please only submit sites for the region as a whole, and not for a specific community.

The Calgary Region covers roughly that of the Census Metropolitan Area of Calgary and is defined at http://www.travelalberta.com/Calgary/.

Central Alberta

Please only submit sites to this category that are regional in nature, not those specific to a particular community.

The province of Alberta lying east of the Rockies, roughly south of a line drawn between Cold Lake and Athabasca, and north of Carstairs. Further information can be found at http://www.travelalberta.com/Central/

Edmonton Region

Please only submit sites for the region as a whole, and not for a specific community.

The Edmonton Region covers roughly that of the Census Metropolitan Area of Edmonton and is defined at http://www.travelalberta.com/Edmonton/.

Mountain Region

Please only submit sites for the region as a whole, and not for a specific community.

The Mountain Region is also known as the Rockies Region and is defined at http://www.travelalberta.com/Rockies/. There really are no counties or municipal districts in this area, as it is mostly covered by parks such as Banff, Kananaskis and Jasper.

Northern Alberta

Please only submit sites of a regional nature. Sites specific to a county or other municipality should be submitted to the corresponding category.

Southern Alberta

This category is for sites of a regional nature.
