Contemporary and historical anthropologists.

Biological Anthropologists

Biological anthropologists study the physical adaptation and evolution of humans and other primates.

Boas, Franz

Franz Boas (1858-1942) was the single most influential anthropologist in North America in the twentieth century. Boas is noted for challenging the ideas of cultural evolutionists who believed that the pattern of history is one of progress, whereby societies develop through stages of savagery, barbarism, and eventually civilization.

Cultural Anthropologists

Cultural anthropologists study the traditions, religion, shared beliefs, values, and institutions of cultures and societies from a holistic perspective.

Linguistic Anthropologists

Linguistic anthropologists traditionally study the languages of non-western or indigenous societies.
